RF Design Engineer IV

Performs a variety of duties as a professional individual contributor engineer with strong technical skills. Acts independently under very general direction on complex system performance, RF design, transmission, equipment, and/or traffic engineering activities. Provides a high level of technical guidance, leadership and training of less experienced engineers. May lead a group or several project teams.

Professional level RF design engineer will be responsible for leading the design and deployment of new cell sites and site modification projects. Design work will encompass multiple technologies including GSM, EDGE, UMTS, HSPA+ and LTE. Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that design specifications meet market specifications and achieve desired performance results.

Experience required in all facets of new cell site deployment including design, site candidate selection, zoning support, and optimization. Working knowledge of network elements including base station equipment, BSCs, RNCs, and backhaul. Preferable to have knowledge of UMTS, traffic engineering, data communications, and MPE compliance.

Experience with Ericsson base station equipment desirable. Working knowledge of Planet, TEMS, Mapinfo, Actix, Excel, and Business Objects preferred.

The candidate should be self motivated, resourceful and have solid verbal and written communication skills. Should be comfortable at giving technical presentations.

Provides radio frequency (RF) and/or Radio Access Network (RAN) design. Designs, plans and oversees installation, maintenance and optimization of wireless radio access network communications systems, including radio propagation modeling and prediction, microwave path analysis, interference analysis, frequency coordination, cell site equipment layout, parameter definition and ancillary equipment. Analyzes RAN data to recommend optimal changes to RAN network to improve all the key indexes and performance indicators.

Knowledge - Subject matter expert within own discipline/ specialty area. Applies specialized knowledge of discipline/specialty area standards and processes to work. Integrates company experience and deep technical knowledge and has advanced understanding of select AT&T technologies, systems and/or procedures.

Communication- Explains advanced technical information to less experienced team members. Provides specialized technical guidance to others in work area. Builds productive internal/external relationships and collaborates with others in own team or across teams.

Additional Responsibilities

This position may be responsible for contributing to AT&T's compliance with environmental laws and regulations as applicable to its job function. This may include, but is not limited to, work related to fuel tanks, emergency and stand-by generators, boilers, hazardous waste, hazardous materials, batteries, manholes and vaults, water wells, linear and other construction projects, water discharge, or air emissions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent working experience
• 3-5 years of progressive successful development as an engineer.
• Strong knowledge of and the ability to solve complex issues in the areas of RF engineering principles (RF communications theory, design principles, network optimization, propagation modeling and prediction, etc.) and vendor capability assessment, Network architecture (3GPP Air interface, standards, technology and evolution, etc.), Vendor capability assessment and Wireless engineering principles (cell site/tower design, attributes and specifications, and RAN design, spectrum/frequency planning, etc.).
• Fully proficient with Hardware (Cell ite equipment layout, network infrastructures), Performance Management (System KPIs and metrics, etc.), and Software (Parameter definition, etc).
