MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Credential
- California credential authorizing instruction in physical education at the secondary level
Education
- Sufficient to meet credential requirements
Experience
- Minimum four years physical education teaching experience
- Minimum three years football coaching experience
Personal
- Ability to meet District standards of physical and mental health, professional attitude and
leadership ability
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As Football Coach:
- Be familiar with, and comply with all school, District, league, and C.I.F. rules
- Be responsible for coordination of all football practices and equitable use of facilities
- See to supply needs of the football program
- In conjunction with Athletic Director, check and approve all football schedules
- Recommend school football policy and be responsible for enforcement
- In conjunction with Athletic Director, in-service staff as to medical procedure to injured
participants
- Cooperate with administration and staff in maintaining an accurate eligibility roster
- Maintain equipment inventory and hold staff responsible for that equipment
- Be aware of need for upkeep of football practice equipment
As Learning Director:
- Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health and recreation education, rhythms and
dance, and individual, dual, or team sports to secondary pupils, utilizing course of study
adopted by the Board of Education
- Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the
course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative
regulations and procedures of the school district
- Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical
education program, adapting daily schedules to accommodate weather conditions and to
provide time for changing clothes, showers, instruction, exercise, and sports activities.
- Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports,
aquatics, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement
- Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the
needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible
- Research and develop appropriate innovative activities with District approval - utilizing
available resources
- May teach one or more extra-curricular classes
- Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to
insure the overall safety of pupils
- Maintain surveillance over storage and use of such items as school-owned uniforms, towels,
lockers, equipment, and supplies to prevent loss or abuse, working through student monitors
or locker room attendants where appropriate
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive
environment in the physical education areas
- Evaluate each pupil's growth in physical fitness, and in physical skills and knowledge. Assess
each individual's contribution to the performance of the team sports. Prepare progress reports
Relationships
- Allot time for individual student conferences
- May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, or other paraprofessionals
- Identify pupil needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in assisting and
helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems
- Communicate with parents and support personnel on the individual pupil's progress
Professional Attitude, Responsibilities and Participation
- Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education workshops and
clinics provided by the District, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment
and/or on a District level. May teach under modular or flexible scheduling plans
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
- Cooperate with school in providing and supervising participating groups for activities such as
Open House, P.T.A. meetings, rallies, assemblies, and interscholastic athletic events
- Select and requisition uniforms, equipment, instructional aides, and instructional supplies, and
maintain required inventory records
- Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required. Share in the
sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty committees
